Embassy of the United States of America Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
WARDEN MESSAGE
The Embassy requests that wardens pass the following message in its entirety to members of the American Community:
On March 27 and 28, the Arab Summit will take place in the vicinity of the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, where the U.S. Embassy is located. During this event, government offices, schools, and some businesses will close.
The Embassy will remain open during normal business hours on these dates. However, a high degree of disruption is expected in and around the Diplomatic Quarter and perhaps in other areas all throughout Riyadh. High-level VIPs from visiting Arab countries will be entering and departing the vicinity with multi-vehicle protective motorcades on a continuous basis, to and from their respective embassies and back and forth from multiple meetings. Access in and around the Diplomatic Quarter may be closed to allow the passage of these motorcades and long delays at entrances and exits are expected. Some roads may also be closed, often at random and without warning.
The Consular Section has rescheduled all visa appointments for March 27 and 28, and requests that American citizens defer any non-emergency services until after these dates.
The Embassy recommends American citizens living in Saudi Arabia consider this information and plan your travel around the city, and especially in the vicinity of the Diplomatic Quarter, accordingly, taking appropriate personal security precautions.
For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement, Travel Warnings, and other Public Announcements can be found.
