Fulbright Scholar Program The Fulbright Scholar Program is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. It aims to provide educational exchange experiences for scholars to establish professional contacts in their fields and make long-lasting friendships with their American counterparts. Fulbright Scholars serve as cultural ambassadors and should be prepared to speak about their country, culture and research to academic and community groups. Grants are awarded for scholars to conduct research, lecture or pursue combined teaching and research in the United States for a period of three to twelve months including extensions. International and domestic airfare, a monthly stipend, and accident and sickness insurance are provided. Scholars from more than 150 countries, including Saudi Arabia, are invited to participate. Eligibility Requirements for the 2008-2009 academic year:- Saudi citizenship (cannot be U.S.-Saudi dual national);
- Doctoral degree or equivalent professional training;
- Proficiency in English appropriate to the proposed lecturing and research project.
Application A complete application includes: - Typed or computer-generated application form (available at: http://riyadh.usembassy.gov/saudi-arabia/resources/exchange-programs.html);
- Detailed statement of proposed activity for research or lecturing at a U.S. university;
- Detailed curriculum vitae;
- Three reference letters;
- Letter of invitation from U.S. institution (if applicable);
- Copies of the applicant’s passport data page and those of any dependents who will join the applicant in the United States.
Applications should be sent to the Cultural Affairs Office at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate closest to the applicant’s residence – the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah, or the U.S. Consulate in Dhahran – no later than December 15, 2007.
