The purpose of the FLTA program is to strengthen the instruction of foreign languages at U.S. colleges and universities while providing teachers of English from Saudi Arabia the opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States.
The deadline for Fulbright FLTA completed applications is January 15, 2007 Interested candidates should begin the on-line application at: https://apply.embark.com/student/fulbright/flta/25/ Only complete applications submitted no later than January 15, 2007 will be considered. A complete application package includes:
- the on-line application;
- academic transcripts;
- letters of reference;
- TOEFL/IELTS score report;
- a valid passport with an expiration date of no earlier than December 31, 2008.
This should be sent to the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh no later than January 15, 2007.
Applicants must be between 21 and 29 years old at the time of application. FLTA Fellows who are not able to secure an entry visa in accordance with their program start date may lose their fellowships. Successful candidates will be notified of their awards by May 2007. Successful FLTA candidate selection will be based on - leadership skills;
- ability to motivate students to learn;
- interest in teaching their native language and culture to U.S. students;
- a desire to meet people and become a part of their host community by participating in community events and campus activities;
- candidates who are creative and self-reliant team players and able to maintain excellent relationships with American faculty, staff and students.
Successfully selected FLTA Fellows will: - spend nine months in the United States serving as teaching assistants at colleges and universities and some high schools;
- receive a monthly stipend, accident and sickness insurance coverage, and travel support;
- receive a tuition-waiver to considered non-degree U.S. university students and encouraged to take courses in English teaching and U.S. Studies;
- will also interact with their host American communities in conversation groups, extracurricular activities and community outreach projects, and
- return to their home countries upon completion of the program.
