Deputy Chief of Mission
Susan L. Ziadeh
Susan L. Ziadeh assumed the position of Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy Riyadh in September 2009. She previously served as the Official Spokesperson at Embassy Baghdad (2008-2009), Public Affairs Counselor at Embassy Riyadh (2007-2008) and as Deputy Chief of Mission in Bahrain (2004-2007). She also served as public affairs officer in Kuwait (1999-2001), Amman (1996-1999) and Jerusalem (1994-1996). In Washington, Susan was responsible for the Jordan desk from 2001-2003, and was acting Deputy Director of the Office for Jordan, Syria and Lebanon in 2003.
She earned a PhD in History from the University of Michigan, an M.A. from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon and a B.A. from the University of Washington. She is a 2004 graduate of the National War College, National Defense University with an M.S. in National Security Studies. A recipient of the Department’s Superior Honor Award numerous times, she was also awarded the Department of State’s 2008 Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Public Diplomacy.
